36. Lost Dutchman SP

Lost Dutchman State Park up by Phoenix was a pleasant surprise.

We arrived right at check-in since it was a short drive day. Our site was amazing, with our camp side facing the mountain range. We set up quickly and then immediately set out to hike around the base of the mountains since we weren't worn out from a long drive day. We had a great time on an easy walk. We saw one small green snake but it just slipped away quickly.

Every evening, we sat out and watched the sunset. They were great there every night. Jordan got to ride her bike.

The sunrises were also nice (1st picture here). The first full day, we drove the Apache trail, which was very scenic. Unfortunately, the second half was closed so we will have to go back sometime.

When we got back, Bruce decided to do the Flatiron trail up to the top of those mountains since he was itching to do something harder. Anjuli and Jordan were smarter and stayed back to relax. On his way down, Bruce had a close encounter with a rattlesnake by a bush. After he got away, he saw what looked like puncture marks on his leg. He wasn't sure if the snake had somehow gotten him. He called Anjuli as he ran down and after a quick google search on the topic, she called 911. The firetruck followed by ambulance arrived shortly after he got back. After looking at the marks and knowing the amount of time that had passed without swelling or pain, they decided it was either a dry bit or punctures from the bush. He lived to fight another day. Jordan got a free firefighter hat out of it though.

Sunset under the fifth wheel. I'm not sure why we sat there. It wasn't raining.

The next day, we went to Goldfield Ghost Town. It was very touristy, but fun. Jordan got to ride the little train around town.

Later, we rode the bikes around the campground repeatedly and then watched the sunset again. The Tiny Photographer was back in action. The red color of the mountains came out even more that night.

Next, on to Sedona...
