We headed across the Glenn Highway towards the Kenai peninsula next.
We found a nice large pull-off away from the highway along the Glenn Highway with a great view of the Matanuska Glacier. We got there pretty early in the day so Anjuli drove back along the highway a little to take some fun photos. It was pretty unreal having that glacier view right out our main windows while we hung out and ate. The sunrise was pretty cool as well.
Our next stop was Palmer where we went to Hatcher Pass. We were going to do a specific hike, April Bowl, but when we got there, we looked out at a nice little path that was more level rather than a climb. Jordan was excited to hike along with her little poles and pack so we went that way instead. Despite being a short hike, it had great views and was a ton of fun. Watching Jordan walk along and take a bunch of pictures made this a top moment of the trip. It was much more enjoyable than trying to move along more quickly on a longer hike.
On the way back, Jordan got her victory ice cream. We happened to be staying right near the Alaska state fair, but didn't end up going because of time and weather. On our way out of the campground, we saw 2 other Brinkleys, so we pulled up next to them to use the empty site to dump our sewer since we didn't have a sewer connection at our site (campground told us to do that since it is easier).
The last activity in town was the Musk Ox Farm. We had booked our tour ahead of time, but when we got there, there were a ton of people piling into the building. We didn't know what was going on, but the guides spotted us and asked if we were the ones who had booked ahead. They apologized that another large group had appeared (who had called months ago but never confirmed their tour). We just waited like 10-15 minutes extra and got a private tour instead of trying to join the giant group. We had fun. We saw some babies there and Jordan got a stuffed animal musk ox and Christmas tree ornament.
