We stopped in Sultan, WA, to visit Anjuli's old college friend, Stacie! We got to meet her husband Kevin and two adorable little girls.
They brought us out in their canoe, well, at least Bruce and Jordan went out. Anjuli hung out with Stacie on the shore waiting to be picked up later and brought to the daytime mystery location along the lake. The guys and toddlers ended up taking a while to find a suitable location, so by the time the Kevin returned, we decided he should just go back and get Bruce and the girls. It was a fun experience though. This started Jordan's love of boats/canoes, which continued up in Canada. Sultan also had a very nice playground with a big rope swing thing that Jordan loved.
From there, we went up to North Cascades National Park and stayed at Newhalem campground. We weren't up for any big hikes while we were there, but we did the nice drive through to Diablo Lake overlook, in the pictures above. The Tiny Photographer appeared again.
There was a nice playground and train by the campground. It rained on us unexpectedly, so we all broke out our yellow rain jackets that we kept stashed in the car for such occasions.
The next day we drove further into the park to go to Washington Pass Observation site. It had amazing views, especially for such a short little walk... very high yield. It was super windy at the first platform viewing area. When we went up a little higher, it was even more stunning. The Tiny Photographer was in her element.
Diablo lake overlook wasn't far, so we went back for sunset that night to see what would happen. The sunset didn't cooperate the way we had hoped (too much cloud cover where the sun was), but it was still fun. Jordan made herself at home under the tripod. This was one of the few sunsets that didn't work out amazingly.
At this point, there was an impending border strike involving Canada that might impact us the day we were going to cross the border, so we headed straight up from Seattle to cross the border a day sooner to be safe. Otherwise, we would have continued East through the park to cross at the other side.
