So in the days preceding our stay in Big Sur, we received an email saying part of the road was out, and it was the only road in at this point since the Southern portion had washed out months/years before and hadn't reopened yet. They told us that if we still came, we would have to enter with the convoy that happened at certain times in the day, once in the morning and once in the evening, and leave during one of the convoys as well.
We decided to take advantage of the minimal traffic that would be on the road and headed in during the evening convoy of our day in Monterey. The line got super long, but we were up near the front from arriving a half hour or so early. We got set up at the campground and headed out to dinner.
We went to dinner just up the road at Big Sur River Inn, which was a great break.
The next day, we drove South to explore the road and viewpoints with essentially nobody around. Maybe we saw a few cars all day. It was amazing. Those viewpoints are normally full of cars and we had them almost entirely to ourselves. Anjuli was able to run along the road to get better coastal photos without having to worry about traffic. It was perfect. The Tiny Photographer reappeared. The next day we had another down day since it was rainy, so we only went out to dinner at the same place again and recuperated.
Then, we headed back to Yosemite...
