23. Toddler Lessons Learned From The Utah/Arizona Trip 2023

  1. 2.5 years old was a pretty decent age to travel longer distances in the car. She only took one nap, but that occupied a good portion of the second half of the drive each day after lunch. She didn't rebel against the car seat at this age.

  2. She handled the rare early wakeup and late night better than expected. We had always assumed that she would scream if we woke her up early and ran her into the car or that she would be miserable if we stayed out late. However, that was not the case as we found out at the Balloon Fiesta.

  3. 2.5 years old was a great age for a long hike in the backpack. She did better than expected on our long hike down into the Grand Canyon. We had never even done a hike half as long as that before, so we didn't know what to expect. She loved looking around and didn't complain except when she was hungry.

  4. Jordan had no idea when the truck broke that our plans had changed completely. While we were stressing, she was excited to hang out in Waterloo, and we decided she liked plan B better than the original plan. She got to eat tons of cheese at the cheese factory, have limitless playground time at multiple excellent playgrounds, eat delicious pizza nearby, and it eventually turned into us going to the Balloon Fiesta because of the change in itinerary.

  5. Overall, 2.5 years old was a good age to be able to do anything we wanted without protest from Jordan (that is, except for Mammoth Cave NP, definitely don't do that at 2.5 years old - see that post before this).
